For an offshore plug and abandonment campaign covering approximately 16–22 wells in the P15 field, we are looking for an experienced Well Engineer.
You will be involved throughout the campaign, from the early engineering and planning stage through procurement, programme preparation and execution. The role combines office-based well engineering with operational support during the offshore campaign.
You will report to the Drilling Superintendent and work closely with the decommissioning team, procurement, logistics and the contractors involved in the operation. During execution, you will also participate in the duty engineer roster.
Your main responsibilities will include:
Prepare well decommissioning design documents.
Write plug and abandonment operational programmes.
Review historical well data, well barriers and well integrity information.
Support operational risk assessments and relevant HSSE documentation.
Prepare for and participate in AWOP (Abandon the Well on Paper) exercises and update programmes based on the outcome.
Support procurement of the equipment, materials and services required for the campaign.
Provide input to logistics for the movement and availability of equipment and materials.
Coordinate with contractors and third-party service companies.
Make sure personnel, materials and equipment are available and ready before operations start.
Support the safe execution of P&A activities in line with approved programmes and procedures.
Maintain awareness of wellbore conditions, barrier status and operational constraints.
Manage changes or deviations through the appropriate technical approval and Management of Change process.
Monitor contractor performance and follow up on issues or areas for improvement.
Ensure contractor equipment is maintained, certified and fit for purpose.
Participate in the duty engineer roster during operations.
Capture lessons learned with the offshore team and implement these in future operations.
Prepare vendor non-conformance reports where required.
Keep the Drilling Superintendent aligned on engineering decisions, operational readiness and execution priorities.
You will also be responsible for keeping the engineering and operational documentation up to date. This includes:
Maintaining well files and well data.
Preparing operational programmes and supporting documents for review and approval.
Capturing and sharing lessons learned from the campaign.
Writing End of Well Reports.
Safety is a key part of the role and of the P&A campaign. You will be expected to make sure the work is properly prepared and that the main operational risks are understood and managed.
You will work in line with applicable HSSE procedures, permits, standards and legislation and make sure contractors do the same. This includes the use of risk assessments, toolbox talks and other relevant safety tools.
You will also make sure well control and safety equipment is serviceable and that the people involved are competent to use it.
We are looking for someone who has worked both in the office and in field operations and understands what is needed to take a well programme from engineering through to execution.
Ideally, you have:
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical discipline.
IWCF Well Control Level 4 certification or higher.
At least 5 years of onshore and/or offshore wells experience.
Experience combining office-based well engineering with field operations.
A good understanding of plug and abandonment and well decommissioning.
Knowledge of well barriers, well integrity, casing, cement, wellheads, Xmas trees and well control.
A good understanding of slickline, braided line and electric line operations.
Experience with drilling, workover and/or well decommissioning operations.
Experience writing well operational programmes.
Experience preparing End of Well Reports.
Experience coordinating operational readiness across different disciplines and contractors.
Good communication and organisational skills.
A practical approach to safety and experience working within established HSSE requirements.
Good computer and data management skills.
Flexibility to work outside normal office hours when operations require it.
Currently living in the Netherlands.
A petroleum engineering background would be an advantage.
You do not need to tick every box. If you have a solid wells background and relevant operational experience, we would still be interested in hearing from you.
This is a hybrid contractor role based in Alkmaar, running until October 2027.
It is a hands-on Well Engineer position where you will be involved from the preparation stage through to offshore execution and close-out. The role will suit someone who is comfortable working with different disciplines and contractors and who can combine solid engineering with a practical understanding of well operations.
Interested in this Well Engineer assignment? We would be happy to hear from you.
