Well Engineer

Akira Energy is looking for an experienced Well Engineer to support an offshore plug and abandonment and well decommissioning campaign.

The role covers the full process from early engineering and procurement through operational programme preparation, execution support and close-out.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare well decommissioning design documents and plug & abandonment operational programmes.
• Support HSSE documentation and AWOP exercises.
• Support procurement of required equipment, materials and services.
• Review well data, verify well barriers and conduct operational risk assessments.
• Coordinate and supervise contractors and third-party service activities.
• Provide operational oversight and duty engineer support during execution.
• Ensure work is carried out in accordance with approved programmes, HSSE policies, permits and standards.
• Maintain awareness of wellbore conditions, barrier status and operational constraints.
• Monitor contractor performance and ensure equipment is certified and fit for purpose.
• Support logistics planning for personnel, materials and equipment.
• Capture lessons learned and implement improvements into future operations.
• Prepare and maintain operational programmes, well files and supporting documentation.
• Write End of Well Reports and non-conformance reports where required.
• Provide safety leadership and ensure well work programmes are executed safely.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical discipline.
• IWCF Well Control Certification Level 4 or higher.
• Minimum 5 years’ onshore/offshore wells experience, combining office engineering and field operations.
• Good understanding of plug & abandonment and well decommissioning operations.
• Knowledge of slickline, braided line and electric line operations.
• Good understanding of well barrier principles, well integrity, casing, cement and well control requirements.
• Experience with onshore/offshore drilling, workover or well decommissioning operations.
• Experience preparing well operational programmes.
• Experience writing and compiling well reports.
• Knowledge of well barriers, wellheads, Christmas trees, casing and cement.
• Experience coordinating multi-discipline operational readiness activities.
• Strong leadership, communication, time management and organisational skills.
• Proven safety leadership skills.
• Good data management and computer literacy.
• Flexible attitude towards working outside normal working hours when required.
• Living in the Netherlands.

Contract

• Location: Alkmaar
• Contract: Temporary hybrid contractor role
• Duration: 1 year, until October 2027 – possible extension
