Akira Energy is looking for a Geotechnical Engineer for a Nearshore Project.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience delivering offshore or nearshore geotechnical investigations, with a strong understanding of seabed in-situ testing, geotechnical data quality control, and marine site investigation operations. Experience with the Manta 200 or similar seabed geotechnical systems will be highly advantageous.

Department Overview
You will be working as part of a specialist offshore geotechnical team supporting a nearshore geotechnical investigation using the Manta 200 system. Operating from Server 2 and a Pontoon, the team is responsible for safely acquiring high-quality geotechnical data to support marine engineering and infrastructure projects while ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and client requirements.

Position Summary
The Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for supervising and monitoring offshore geotechnical investigation activities throughout the campaign. This includes overseeing Manta 200 operations, ensuring the quality and integrity of acquired geotechnical data, coordinating with the PC / Online Surveyors and vessel crew, and supporting the safe and efficient execution of the investigation programme.

Key Responsibilities

Geotechnical Operations

  • Supervise offshore nearshore geotechnical investigation activities using the Manta 200 system.
  • Monitor geotechnical testing operations to ensure compliance with project specifications and operational procedures.
  • Coordinate with the PC / Online Surveyors to verify investigation locations and positioning accuracy.
  • Monitor equipment performance and recommend operational adjustments where required.
  • Support mobilisation, equipment commissioning, and operational readiness prior to offshore operations.
  • Ensure geotechnical investigations are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with the approved work programme.

Data Quality & Technical Oversight

  • Review geotechnical data during acquisition to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control checks on all acquired datasets.
  • Identify data anomalies and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Verify that all testing activities comply with project requirements and recognised industry standards.
  • Monitor data quality throughout the investigation and maintain accurate technical records.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain daily geotechnical logs and offshore operational records.
  • Prepare daily technical reports and progress summaries.
  • Record testing observations, equipment performance, and any operational deviations.
  • Assist with the preparation of final geotechnical deliverables and project documentation.
  • Ensure all technical documentation is completed accurately and submitted within project deadlines.

  • Participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments, and safety meetings.
  • Ensure all offshore operations are conducted in accordance with client and company quality standards.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of offshore geotechnical investigation methodologies and marine site investigations.
  • Understanding of seabed in-situ testing and offshore data acquisition procedures.
  • Familiarity with offshore quality assurance and quality control requirements.
  • Knowledge of offshore HSE standards and marine operational practices.
  • Experience with the Manta 200 system or similar seabed CPT/geotechnical testing equipment is highly desirable.

Requirements

  • Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience as a Geotechnical Engineer on offshore or nearshore geotechnical investigation projects.
  • Experience supervising marine geotechnical testing operations.
  • Strong understanding of offshore HSE, QA/QC, and project documentation requirements.
  • Good command of the English language, both written and spoken.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous experience supporting nearshore geotechnical investigation campaigns.
  • Experience working with the Manta 200 or similar offshore geotechnical systems.
  • Valid offshore medical certificate.
  • Valid offshore safety certification (BOSIET / FOET or equivalent).
