HSEQ Manager

Akira Energy is looking for an HSEQ Manager in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Department Overview

You will join a leading provider of nearshore and offshore survey services, supporting hydrographic and geophysical projects across the Netherlands and Europe. Working closely with project teams, fleet management, and operational stakeholders, you will play a key role in promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring the highest standards of Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) across the organisation.

Position Summary

The HSEQ Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving the company’s Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality management system. Leading the HSEQ function, you will support both onshore and offshore operations by ensuring compliance with legislation, industry standards, and company procedures while driving a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

HSEQ Management

• Develop, implement, and maintain the HSEQ Management System across all projects and operations.
• Ensure compliance with Dutch and international HSE, environmental, and maritime legislation.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen safety, quality, and environmental performance.
• Manage and support the HSEQ Specialist.

Risk Management & Compliance

• Conduct and support risk assessments, audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
• Investigate incidents, perform root cause analyses, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Translate legislation and industry standards into practical procedures and documentation.
• Manage and maintain ISO management systems and certifications.

Operational Support

• Work closely with project managers and fleet managers to ensure the safe execution of survey operations.
• Identify operational risks and develop effective mitigation measures for onshore and offshore activities.
• Provide HSEQ guidance throughout all project phases.
• Promote a proactive safety culture across the organisation.

Function Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent working and thinking level in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an HSEQ leadership role within the offshore, maritime, or marine survey industry.
• Experience with incident investigation methodologies such as Tripod, Kelvin TOP-SET, or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of HSEQ management systems, risk management, audits, and compliance.
• Experience maintaining ISO management systems and certifications.
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Fluent in both Dutch and English, written and spoken.

Preferred Experience

• Experience supporting offshore or nearshore survey operations.
• Knowledge of survey vessels, hydrographic or geophysical equipment, and associated operational risks.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary technical project environments.
• Passion for developing a positive safety culture through coaching and continuous improvement.
