Akira Energy is looking for experienced SPMT Operators for a long-term heavy transport project in Bilbao, Spain.

Duration: Approximately 11–12 months (extension possible)
Department Overview
You will join a specialist heavy transport team supporting the movement of large offshore structures during a major international project. Working alongside supervisors, riggers, crane operators, and engineering teams, you will play a key role in the safe transportation and positioning of heavy components using Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs).
Position Summary
The SPMT Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining Self-Propelled Modular Transporters during heavy transport operations. The role includes transporting monopiles, supporting load-in and load-out activities, configuring SPMT systems, and ensuring all operations are carried out safely and efficiently in accordance with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
SPMT Operations
- Operate Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs) during heavy transport operations.
- Transport heavy monopiles and other oversized components safely and efficiently.
- Assist with load-in, load-out, and heavy lifting operations.
- Configure, assemble, and dismantle SPMT combinations as required by the project.
Equipment & Maintenance
- Perform daily inspections and first-line maintenance on SPMT equipment.
- Identify and report equipment defects or maintenance requirements.
- Ensure all equipment is operated in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and project procedures.
Operational Support
- Work closely with supervisors, rigging teams, crane operators, and engineering personnel.
- Support the planning and safe execution of heavy transport activities.
- Maintain accurate operational records and report completed work.
Function Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years' proven experience as an SPMT Operator.
- Experience operating Scheuerle, Cometto, or similar SPMT systems.
- Previous experience within heavy lift, heavy transport, offshore, civil engineering, or project cargo environments.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in both Spanish and English, both verbally and in writing.
- Valid Category B driving license (BE or C/CE license is advantageous).
- Safety-conscious with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work in Spain for an extended project duration.
Preferred Experience
- Experience on international heavy transport projects.
- Experience supporting offshore wind or renewable energy projects.
- Experience transporting large offshore structures such as monopiles, jackets, or transition pieces.
- Previous involvement in complex load-out and load-in operations.
